The Zwarte Zee was built in 1963 at J. & K. Smit's Scheepswerfs N.V. in Kinderdijk, Holland. This ship is powered by two Smit-M.A.N. turbo diesel engines that together deliver 9000 BHP. These machines drive a single propeller shaft through Vulcan fluid couplings and transmissions. When a quick maneuver is required, one of the motors can drive forward and the other in reverse. Maximum speed: 18 knots.
